Cut&Paste Digital Design Tournament 2009
When: Saturday, February 21 (5PM)
Where: Avalon Hollywood
1735 Vine Street, Los Angeles, CA
Cost: $15 advance / $20 at door
Buy your tickets here!

The biggest, baddest tournament yet, Cut&Paste's Digital Design Tournament 2009 shows up with a 16-city roster and a slate of three competitions (2D, 3D, Motion Graphics) per city. Plus new Show&Tell sessions and a globalized Audience Design Contest. And the first-ever Global Championship. The whirlwind ride never ends!

Out of the hundreds of entries that poured in during this year's Call for Competitors, after the nerve-racking reality check delivered by the Test Round experience, 112 competitors have reached the final selection for the seven cities that make up Cut&Paste's 2009 North American tour.

It all starts right here in Los Angeles!
This is what they're saying about LA: People come to here with fame and glory on the mind, and the ones who stay refuse to let anyone cut them down to size, which might explain how LA turns out some of the quickest, slickest designers we’ve ever seen. Populated by media visionaries, this town operates with a partygoing philosophy that overwhelms the senses. Loud music, dim lights, massive crowds? All in a night’s work, kids.

The LA event kicks it all off on February 21, and things are gonna get super hot super fast for all the competitors. Looks like they're all ready to tear it up onstage, but don't take our word for it - get on over to the tour city page to see who these people are, the colors they love, and what they're all about.

S&G3 wrapup: Orthographic chairs

"S&G? What's that?"

Sh*ts & Giggles is IDSA-LA's ongoing series of designer social mixer / competitions. We'll announce the topic / format and all are welcomed to compete in these highly-charged competitions. Everybody? Yep, everybody: Students, members, non-members, professionals, aspiring designers, anybody. All we're asking is: Show us what ya' got.

The first Sh*ts & Giggles of the year, way back in January, kicked off our new multiple-location format held simultaneously at Westside and Long Beach locations. Here are a few photos from the Westside orthographic chair competition.

All the rest of the photos are here. We're hoping for photos from the LB event!

We're also looking for someone to scout out and host events up in the San Fernando Valley, Pasadena, or Glendale area. Or, maybe there's some other untapped pocket of design-rich creativity that we've overlooked. Are you game? Of course you are! Why should the rest of the city, over the pass, get in on all this fun? Drop us an email and let us know you'd like to help with the next S&G event!
