What is a Pecha Kucha (Japanese term for "chit-chat") presentation?
Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each - giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show. http://www.pecha-kucha.org/

We have asked a group of award-winning designers and a medical products manufacturer to share their experiences in the field of Medical Design. A roundtable discussion will follow the presentations.
Our presenters:

Aspen Medical Products
Aspen Medical Products Inc. is the leading producer of spinal bracing products in the world today. Aspen's innovations have played a key role in the acceptance of off-the-shelf braces that save time, money, are more comfortable and more effective than "custom fabricated" orthoses (made from a mold which was made from a casting which was taken from a particular patient's body.) Aspen not only designs, manufacturers and sells the product, but coordinates the research that validates the safety and effectiveness of these products. Geof Garth, a CSULB ID program alum, is one of the owners of Aspen and heads up the R&D team. He has numerous patents and has received design awards for many of the braces he has brought to market through Aspen and his previous company, California Medical Products.

DD STUDIO
San Diego-based DD STUDIO has developed laboratory instruments and medical devices across a broad spectrum of research and patient care environments including acute, diagnostic, surgical, therapeutic and home/consumer healthcare. Our distinct emphasis on usability and brand image make us the ideal entry-point for turnkey medical product development for start-ups through Fortune 500s. Past designs have won recognition from Medical Design Excellence Awards through IDSA’s IDEAs.

Morphix Design
Matt Duncan of Morphix Design has enjoyed the problem-solving challenges of medical product design that literally bring cutting edge technologies to the patient. He has received numerous honors in ID magazine and IDSA annuals for his designs ranging from surgical equipment to wheelchairs and has participated as a recipient and juror in the IDSA sponsored Medical Design Excellence Awards.

Omnica Corporation
Located in Irvine California, Omnica has been providing fully integrated product development services for 25 years. Five industrial designers are a key part of Omnica's highly technical staff of 28 employees who specialize (over 70% of projects) in medical product design. Omnica has been awarded Medical Design Excellence Awards for Inogen One® and HELiOs® , two unique portable oxygen supply products.

Stuart Karten Design
SKD practices a research-driven, user-focused approach to medical product development. By spending time with healthcare providers, patients and caretakers, we uncover functional and emotional needs to drive designs that provide an improved user experience in the healthcare system. Using design to further our clients' business objectives, we address issues that impact a product's marketability, from brand language to ergonomics and user interface

Hope to see you there!
